Mrs Vasantha Krishnan is a Ganabhooshanam holder (with distinction) from Sri Swati Thirunal College of Music, Tiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Born into a very talented music family, Mrs Vasantha Krishnan is the granddaughter of late Shri Ranganatha Iyer, popularly known as Ranga Bhagavathar – one of the eminent Musicians, and Asthana Vidwan of the erstwhile Travancore Palace. Ranga Bhagavathar's contribution to the field of Carnatic Music is immense. In the earlier part of the century, he brought out the publication Balamrutham – compositions of Sri Swati Thirunal in a notated form. It is worth mentioning here that Mrs Vasantha Krishnan was married into a musical family and is the daughter-in-law of Late Sri K Padmanabhan, a noted Veena artist of All India Radio, Delhi.
Mrs Vasantha Krishnan has imparted Carnatic vocal training to numerous students at the Delhi Tamil Sangam for close to 25 years, which includes training them towards government scholarships. Mrs Vasantha Krishnan’s coaching has enabled her students to obtain thorough and clear basics in both theory and practical, and also qualify them to appear in Carnatic vocal examinations and for securing many prizes in various music competitions in Delhi. She was certified as one of the ‘best and dedicated musicians’ and awarded with a Rolling Trophy for 1998/99 by the All India Pepsi Music and Dance Competition, New Delhi. Mrs Krishnan was also honored by the Kannadika Association, Government of Karnataka, in recognition of her contribution in the field of Carnatic music. She is a member of the judging panel of CCRT, the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, Government of India.
Mrs Krishnan and her sister, Mrs Lalita Anand, have been performing Carnatic music programmes in Delhi and other places. Mrs Lalita Anand, is a 'Gaanabhushanam ' holder- with distinction- from Sri Swati Tirunal College of Music, Thiruvananthapuram ,Kerala as well.
Mrs Lalita Anand was conferred the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' in the year 2021 by Gayathri Fine Arts ( Regd.), a prestigious cultural organization of Delhi. She is also the recipient of ABJ VIP Global 2023 best Carnatic Vocalist Award, instituted by the popular group based out of Tamil Nadu.
Sriram Krishnan was initiated into Carnatic vocal at a young age by his mother Mrs. Vasantha Krishnan. Sriram, endowed with a pleasant voice and a flair for classical arts, was brought under the tutelage of Ganakala Bhooshana, Sangeetha Saraswati Dr K. Vageesh, an acclaimed Carnatic vocalist. Dr. Vageesh trained him in the nuances of carnatic music, aspects of aesthetics and improvisation, besides techniques of presentation. Sriram is a recipient of the CCRT scholarship for young talents and winner of many prizes in prestigious music competitions in Delhi. He has also performed at A.I.R as a youth artiste.
Sriram completed his Electrical Engineering and moved to the US for his Masters in Wireless Communications. He is presently employed with Apple Inc. Sriram continues to pursue his deep interest in manodharma sangeetham and has developed an expansive knowledge of intricate carnatic ragas and kritis. He is adept at rendering Ragam, Tanam, Pallavis using intricate tala patterns. Sriram continues to perform at premier music forums in and outside Bay area and has been regularly performing under the auspices of reputed music organizations during his visits to India.
Sriram’s performances are marked by rich improvisation, soulful presentation and scholarship.
